The record number of applications that poured in for The IFLA PressReader International Marketing Award this year were, in a word, impressive: 116 submissions from 30 countries. Needless to say, this made choosing a winner very tough. Criteria was based on innovation, creativity, and originality in marketing.

And the winner is...

We’d like to give a big congratulations to The University of British Columbia on their big win! Inspired by the Color Our Collections initiative, UBC created a free, downloadable coloring book using art from a book in their Rare Books and Special Collection – the Kelmscott Chaucer. The university took a traditional piece and brought it into a modern, digitized world. The weaving of old and new in a harmonious way was something that couldn’t be overlooked.

Lucky for us, PressReader HQ is located just a quick car ride away from The University of British Columbia. We couldn’t resist delivering the award in person, and sitting down for a conversation with Susan E. Parker, UBC’s University Librarian. We talked about the valuable role of libraries in today's world, the success of their marketing campaign, and where libraries are headed in the future.
