iOS 8 App Compatibility Update

It is fair to say that Apple has seen better days… Its new iOS 8 release has not received the warm welcome it expected and it is no secret that it has disappointed more than one. It just shows how sensitive technology can be.

If you are not familiar with the situation, here’s a brief rundown: on Friday, Apple released its new iOS 8 (a different version than the one made available in pre-release for developers), making the platform highly unstable and introducing a number of issues with some of apps on the platform.

We were excited and prepared for the release, but unfortunately these new issues are now affecting some of our branded digital edition apps (versions 3.2 or older). Here are some of the symptoms:

  • Inconsistent display of purchase advice issues when launching the app
  • Page-turning lags in Page View mode
  • Incorrect Apple Newsstand icon size once issue is downloaded
  • Slow loading of Instruction and Setting windows

We have already started to rebuild all affected apps and we expect to have them all submitted to the App Store for review within the next week or so. We will do our best to expedite the app review process, but as you may expect, Apple is currently experiencing longer-than-normal review process delays.

In the meantime, as an interim solution to address customer service inquiries, our universal PressReader app can be used to authorize user accounts and provide them with a temporary access on the platform.
