Record-Setting Win in the Women's Biathlon

Record-Setting Win: Darya Dom­racheva of Be­larus is the first woman to win three biathlon gold medals at the same Olympics. Dom­racheva won the pur­suit and in­di­vid­ual race last week, and today won the 12.5-kilo­me­ter mass start race. Defector Wins Gold: Rus­sia’s Vik­tor Ahn, born Ahn Hyun-soo in Korea, re­cently won short track gold and bronze medals at the Sochi Win­ter Olympics. Ahn be­came a Rus­sian cit­i­zen in 2011. Though it has been more than two years since Ahn’s de­fec­tion, rea­sons be­hind his de­ci­sion came back into the na­tional spot­light dur­ing the Olympics, with his vic­to­ries pro­vid­ing a stark con­trast to Kore­ans’ strug­gles on the ice. Hockey update: The Stan­ley Cup made an ap­pear­ance at the Olympics on Mon­day, mak­ing sev­eral stops around Olympic Park, in­clud­ing the USA House and Canada House. “It’s yours — for an hour,” Cana­dian Olympic Com­mit­tee Pres­i­dent Mar­cel Aubut told the packed house. NHL Com­mis­sioner Gary Bettman says the league’s pos­si­ble par­tic­i­pa­tion in the 2018 Olympics hasn’t been and won’t be dis­cussed dur­ing the Sochi Games.
