Day 13 Feature Athlete: Ian Millar

A veteran to the Summer Games, Canada’s equestrian rider, Ian Millar, is today’s feature athlete. At 65 years old, Millar made his 10th Summer Games appearance and finished tied for ninth place with two other competitors. He started competing in the games back in 1972 at the Munich Games and hasn’t missed one since.

In a press conference prior to the start of the competition, Millar expressed interest in returning for the 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. “It depends on the horses”, he said. “This old job is a lot more fun and rewarding when you’re riding a good horse, and the horse I have now, Star Power, is quite a fantastic horse. He’s 11, so next time around, he’d be still well within range, so if he’s wiling, I’m willing.”

The oldest Olympian competing in the London 2012 Games is 71 year old Hiroshi Hoketsu of Japan, also an equestrian rider.
