Day 12 of the London 2012 Games
Day 12 of the Games wrapped up a heartbreaking end to Canada’s Simon Whitfield’s last triathlon. Whitfield won a Gold in Sydney 2000 and a Silver in Beijing 2008, making him a medal favorite for this year’s Games. Unfortunately, Whitfield received a DNF after suffering a crash during the cycling portion, breaking his bike and preventing him from finishing the race.
Day 12 also marked the end to Artistic Gymnastics. Aly Raisman earned USA’s first ever Gold in the floor routine and earned a Bronze on the balance beam but only after she contested the judges scores. Team USA contested the score on the basis that the judges didn’t award her for the difficulty performed. After further review, Raisman’s score was then bumped up one tenths of a point, bumping Catalina Ponor of Romania to fourth place.
Events coming up today for Day 6 of the London 2012 Games include Equestrian, Women’s beach volleyball, and Women’s wrestling with Canada’s medal hopeful, Carol Huynh.
