NewspaperDirect Welcomes Guido Smallegange to the Libraries Team
As Market Development Manager for Latin America & the Caribbean, Guido plays a key role in ND’s business development for this crucial region.
Guido Smallegange is nothing short of a very interesting man. He’s travelled extensively, has lived in more than ten countries, can speak five languages, and has an impressive list of exciting hobbies and interests – from golf and tennis to snowboarding, surfing and (soon) marathon running. As a veteran business professional, Guido has more than ten years of experience in sales in Latin America, having worked at one of the largest subscription agencies in the market. He holds a degree in International Business from Rotterdam University.
Having recently joined the Libraries team as ND’s Market Development Manager for Latin America & Caribbean, Guido will be leading business development in the region. While print media continues to face challenges from online platforms, libraries all over the world are struggling to meet the rapidly changing needs of patrons who increasingly demand access to a wide array of digital news sources. Providing libraries with cost-saving solutions is precisely what Guido has set out to do.
“Adapting to the online information reality is a must for both library and publishers,” says Guido, “and ND understands how to get news back to news, always staying one step ahead of not only technology developments, but also with ways of integrating social media into services – ever connecting people with news, and people with people.”
As an avid newsreader, Guido has long been able to appreciate the insights and the reading pleasure newspapers offer. However, it was on his travels when he began to understand the value of news in business and in forging friendships. Using PressReader, Guido often reads and familiarizes himself with the local news and gossips of his destination country, and then engages his very surprised clients in some lively discussions.
As we have seen in the scientific-academic world, patrons want information to be available 24/7 and at their fingertips without them having to go to a physical library. Integration with social media has become a must in this ever-evolving information world we live in.

Facts about Guido
- Born in Iran in 1973, then grew up in a number of countries including Kenya, South Africa, Argentina and Colombia. He has been living in Panama for the last almost ten years.
- Shortly after university and before entering the corporate world, he worked a number of years in the tourism industry in Southeast Asia and Central and South America.
- Can speak English, Spanish, French, Dutch and Portuguese.
- Happily resides in Panama and will be a first time father in September.
