Canada’s new anti-spam legislation (CASL) will come into force on July 1, 2014. CASL applies to Canadian residents or anyone sending to Canadian residents, be they individuals or businesses. This new change will require all our publishing partners to have or obtain consent (express or implied) before sending commercial electronic messages (CEMs).

We have categorised these CEMs in 3 categories:

  • Account-related (eg: email alerts)
  • Promotional (eg: new titles being added to the platform or upsell opportunity)
  • Transactional (eg: account renewal, subscription confirmation)

Transactional emails will be mandatory as part of the service registration. However, new steps will be added to the registration process for users to agree to receive account-related or promotional emails from our service.

We are in the process of finalizing the modifications to all our platforms to be completely CASL compliant. We will be posting another update once the changes are made and further explain how this will affect you.

In the meantime, you can read more about this new legislation here: Fight Spam. Also, don’t hesitate to reach out to us if you have any questions.
